This past Friday Sylvie threw me a surprise birthday party. I had no idea it was coming (it certainly helped that it was about two weeks after my birthday). Birthday parties are funny things, and surprise parties that much more. It took me a while to work out what was happening. At first I just thought a few friends had dropped by, and thought to myself, "I think we made enough food, we'll just have to find a few extra chairs."
The big hit of the evening was the cake. A three layer chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Between the middle two layers was a chocolate ganache. And in all three icings there were large chunks of bacon. That's right. BACON. It sounds ridiculous, but it was amazing. Three of the ten people had seconds, even after a big meal.
On Sunday, while teaching a class at the church, I told them about the cake, and one of the women asked Sylvia, "where'd you find that recipe?" I think Sylvie will have to publish it, with a disclaimer saying, Warning: Will cause 3 out of every 5 preachers to indulge in gluttony. Yum.
